MCPD Project Updates

Paddlecraft Launch at Brunswick Lake Park
The park district added a new ADA accessible paddlecraft launch at Brunswick Lake Park in summer of 2026. The launch is located on the northwest side of the lake and accessible from the ten parking spaces available for park visitors in the Cleveland Clinic parking lot. Visitors are able to transport their canoes, kayaks, or stand-up paddleboards down a paved path and boardwalk to a dock that includes a launch with ADA seating and grab bars for ease of access to the water. This project is made possible with support from Cleveland Clinic and the city of Brunswick.

Lake Medina Improvements
Lake Medina is open again as of 9/23/26 at 3 p.m. And, there are some exciting improvements waiting for you! A brand-new paddlecraft launch/fishing pier is now ready to use near the Granger Road trailhead. The structure extends from the shoreline into the lake and features two paddlecraft launches, including an ADA-accessible launch, plus designated areas where you can comfortably sit or stand while fishing. And that’s not all! In addition, approximately one-mile of the Lake Medina Greenway trail south of the pumphouse to Route 18 has been repaved, making it even better for exploring the park by foot or bike. These projects, along with routine maintenance repairs to the lake dam, were funded by a State Capital Improvement grant.

Lake Medina Greenway – Smith Road Trailhead
The new trailhead for Lake Medina Greenway opens this summer, unveiling a new one-mile extension that brings the paved trail to 2.4 miles. Beginning at the Smith Road Trailhead with a 20-car parking lot, the trail winds through parkland and the Summa Health Medina Medical Center campus before crossing State Route 18 at a signalized pedestrian crosswalk and continuing into Lake Medina. Whether you’re walking, running, or biking, the scenic route offers a great way to enjoy the outdoors and can be accessed from the Smith Road Trailhead, Lake Medina’s Route 18 entrance, the Granger Road Trailhead, or Shotwell Gardens at Lake Medina. The extension was made possible through funding from the Clean Ohio Trail Fund and the State of Ohio Capital Budget, along with a trail easement across the Summa Health campus that helped create this seamless connection.

Wolf Creek Greenway
The park district is building a one-mile asphalt walking and biking trail between Sharon Township’s Community Park on State Route 94 and State Road. Construction began in late summer and is anticipated to open late fall 2026.

Lodi Woods Nature Preserve
Lodi Woods Nature Preserve was made possible thanks to landowners who wanted to see their ‘retreat’ preserved and a unique partnership between Medina County Park District and Medina County District Library. The 67-acre preserve, which will open in November ‘26, features a linear north-to-south hiking trail that climbs more than 50 feet in elevation from the starting point at the Lodi Library to Oakwood Drive. Nearby residents will be provided walk-in access to the nature preserve through trail connections at Hawthorne Drive and Oakwood Drive. Additionally, there will be two smaller loop trails that further immerse visitors in the forested landscape. Restrooms will be available inside the library during its regular hours.

BMW Trail
Medina County Park District is beginning the planning phase of the BMW Trail, a long-term project to connect Brunswick, Medina, and Wadsworth through a shared trail. With financial support from all three cities and a three-year planning effort underway, the goal is to build on existing trails, engage the public, and create a community-focused regional trail that links cities, parks, and outdoor destinations across Medina County. The timeline for actual construction of the BMW trail is still to be determined.
