NEW! Discovery Backpacks: Forestry

People connect to forests in a special way. No matter our age, there is so much they can teach us. Medina County Park District is excited to offer tools in our new Discovery Backpacks for visitors to borrow to explore the lessons of the forest.

Discovery Backpacks are perfect for anyone who is looking for a bit of adventure. Plan an afternoon with the grandkids, invite someone on a date, or enhance your traditional and homeschool lessons with a Discovery Backpack!

Discovery Backpacks: Forestry are available to borrow during normal business hours at:

• Oenslager Nature Center
• Susan Hambley Nature Center

Who Are They For?

Everyone – parents, grandparents, teachers, homeschool families, couples — and yes, kids, too can use the backpacks. They are designed for all ages and experience levels.

Each backpack is filled with tools to help you discover the forest in new ways including:

• Binoculars
• Jumbo magnifiers
• Pressed leaves
• Pocket wildlife ID guides
• Measuring tape
• Flashcards
• And more

Curriculum Options

Three topic binders are available to use with the backpacks:

• Introduction to Trees
• Forest Ecology
• Math in the Forest

Where to Use Them

Backpacks are free to borrow and may be used on park property at:

• Alderfer-Chatfield Wildlife Sanctuary
• Brunswick Lake

How to Borrow

Stop by the office at either nature center during normal business hours. Staff or volunteers will assist with checkout. Borrowers are asked to leave car keys, which will be securely stored in the office, until the backpack is returned.
