Maintenance Worker

Job Description

Under the direction of a maintenance supervisor, the maintenance worker executes assignments in all areas of general park maintenance including groundskeeping, equipment maintenance, and repairs. The maintenance worker will also complete skilled tasks to enhance the overall function of the department and park maintenance operations.

Examples of Duties

• Safe operation of district-owned vehicles, equipment such as mowers, tractors,heavy equipment, and power tools
• Responsible for groundskeeping activities, site and building maintenance, painting, landscaping, snow plowing, and other maintenance activities
• Able to work with minimal supervision on skilled tasks utilizing building and/or construction trade knowledge and experience
• Assist with providing information to visitors and with special events
• Cooperate with other staff in completing necessary maintenance or construction projects
• Responsible for basic record keeping as required
• Other duties as assigned

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proven teamwork, communication, and partnership skills, and the ability to work directly with all levels of the organization to achieve common goals
• Demonstrated emotional intelligence including self-awareness, empathy, reliability, and consistency; a proven track record of establishing and maintaining critical relationships internally and externally; demonstrated trust, integrity, and credibility
• Minimum of five years’ experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and/or park related maintenance
• Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and/or other areas of maintenance
• Exhibit desire to continue training/education enhancement opportunities
• Possess a desire to work outdoors and in the field of park maintenance
• Ability to perform basic computer skills including word processing
• Work with minimal supervision
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent

Required Physical Abilities (Including but not limited to)

• Must work in extreme weather conditions
• Must occasionally lift items in excess of 50 pounds
• Must work in a wide range of occupational conditions including indoor and outdoor cleaning, chemical exposure, climbing ladders and rooftops, streams/ponds, dust, etc.
• Must work around and with heavy construction equipment and mechanical devices
• Must be willing and able to perform manual labor tasks and assignments

Desired Qualifications

• Any combination of training and experience that would indicate possession of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above
• Possess and maintain a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license with an insurable/acceptable driving record
• Hold and/or be willing to obtain certificates in specific areas of maintenance (e.g., chemical application, electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
• Satisfactory fingerprint and criminal background check and drug screening

Pay

$18.75 to $25.48 an hour based on experience and qualifications

Schedule

Full-time including weekends and holidays 6 a.m to 2:30 p.m.
