From the State Route 162 trailhead, visitors are greeted by a towering cathedral of pine trees. The one-mile nature trail leads to one of the park district’s most impressive residents—a massive, centuries-old burr oak. Continuing on, hikers pass through a grove of buckeyes that inspired the name of the adjoining park – Buckeye Woods Park. In keeping with the Schleman family’s wishes, the preserve remains undeveloped, offering a peaceful haven for the plants and animals that thrive here.
