The Lester Rail Trail is the first example of conversion of a former rail corridor for public use as a bike/hike trail in Medina County. The trail extends 3.5 miles from Abbeyville Road to Lester Road in York Township. Lester Rail Trail's acreage is 164.25.
With the intent of developing a railroad theme when Lester Rail Trail was developed, Northeast Ohio Live Steamers (NEOLS) and Medina County Park District formed a relationship to develop land for miniature steamers. Rides are available to the public on select dates per year (NOT DAILY). Click HERE to check the program schedule.
Visitors to the trail can enjoy mostly level terrain that travels through farmland. Wildlife along the trail is abundant, and remnants of prairie grasses can be seen as well. The cardinal flower, a relatively rare wetland species, can be seen in wet areas along the trail.
Parking can be found at the rear of Medina County Career Center in the northeast corner of the parking lot or on Lester Road. The trail descends slightly as you travel from Lester Road to Abbeyville Road. In addition, there is a parking lot for trail users near the intersection of Fenn Road and Route 18, in front of Heraeus Electro-Nite.
