Job opening: Seasonal Park Laborer

Job description: This is a seasonal positon within the maintenance department. Under the direction of the maintenance superintendent, the park laborer works in all areas of park maintenance including groundskeeping, repairs, and other assignments necessary for the operations and upkeep of parks and facilites from April 15 to October 15.

Example of duties:

Safe operation of district-owned vehicles and maintenance equipment such as mowers, weed trimmers, power tools, and tractors

Cleaning of buildings, restrooms, vehicles, equipment, etc.

Groundskeeping activities including litter and trash pick-up, mowing, trimming, cleaning shelters/buildings, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash cans, trail maintenance, painting, mulching, raking, landscaping, and other maintenance activities

Distinguishing Characteristics of the Class:

Must have a knowledge of operating hand tools in the performance of maintenance work

Must work with various forms of power equipment including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, blowers, etc.

Necessary Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, and/or maintenance of facilities and grounds; interest in the outdoors and the ﬁeld of parks and recreation; ability to work eﬀectively with others and take directions for performance of work

Hourly rate: $16/hour
Hours: 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Workdays will vary; must be available on some weekends

Job opening: Seasonal Steward - Natural Resources

Job description: Under the direction of the natural resource manager, assists with duties pertaining to natural resource management including: invasive plant management; aquatic management project; tree maintenance projects; park maintenance activities; operation of mowing equipment, chainsaws, tractors, and trucks; natural resource inventories (i.e., flora and fauna surveys); and other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and have some experience with equipment operation.

Minimum first-year student in natural resource management, park and recreation management, wildlife management, or related field

Possess and maintain a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license with an insurable/acceptable driving record

Hourly rate: $16/hour
Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Total hours: 575

Job opening: Seasonal Landscape Planner

Medina County Park District is seeking a seasonal landscape planner to assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of landscaped areas across the park district. Under the direction of the planning manager, this role supports various landscape projects while performing a variety of grounds maintenance tasks.

Examples of Duties:

Assist in landscaping design and installation

Maintain and care for landscaped areas, including weeding, cutting back/dividing perennials, edging beds, mulching, and other related tasks

Assist with planning, design, and construction of park amenities including landscaping, trails, and other associated facilities

Perform routine grounds maintenance such as pruning trees and shrubs as directed

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to create and read maps and construction drawings

Basic knowledge of landscaping or grounds maintenance

Required Physical Abilities (Including but not limited to the following):

Must work in the outdoors under a wide range of conditions throughout the season, including heat and insects in summer and inclement weather.

Must occasionally lift items in excess of 50 pounds

Capable of performing physical labor

Occasional work around heavy equipment during construction projects

Desired Qualifications:

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent

Background and education in horticulture, landscape architecture, or planning is preferred

Possession of a valid Ohio Motor Vehicle Operators license with a good driving record (must be insurable)

Hourly rate: $16/hour
Monday - Friday: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Total hours: 500
